Acquisition Ulysse Group by Destiny

Acquisition strengthens position of national cloud telecoms challenger with similar footprint in Flanders and Wallonia

Brussels, 2 March 2021 – Dstny, provider of secure cloud communications solutions for innovative enterprises, has acquired internet and network infrastructure player Ulysse Group from Mons.   After its previous acquisitions of Ergatel in 2016 and Belgium Telecom and Fuzer/Escaux in 2019, Destiny is hereby expanding its customer base in the south of the country.  The company is also strengthening its position as national cloud telecoms challenger, with a similar footprint in Flanders and Wallonia from now on, in terms of both number of customers and number of employees. In view of the company’s customer-oriented strategy, the office in Mons is being retained.  This will allow Dstny to remain close to customers in Wallonia and means that it now has a second Wallonian branch, in addition to Wavre.  All 12 staff of the Ulysse Group and the three joint shareholders, Gauthier Delfosse, Laurent Druart and Xavier Cluysen, remain on board, guaranteeing continuity for the customers.

“With the acquisition of the Ulysse Group and its 350 customers, we now have roughly as many customers in the French-speaking part of the country as in the Flemish,” says Joachim Lauwers, Managing Director Belgium and Chief Product Officer at Destiny. “And with good credentials from Ulysse Group like Groupe EPC-Familia, Les Editions Dupuis, Murprotec, Delitraiteur, gvotreauto.be and a number of local authorities, we are also playing in a higher market segment. In addition, this acquisition also strengthens the service offering of both parties,  enabling us to offer Ulysse Group customers a complete one-stop-shop solution in the cloud.”  This acquisition now brings the total number of Dstny staff in Belgium to more than 200, roughly equally distributed between the two halves of the country. “This similar footprint along both sides of the language border puts us on an even firmer footing as national cloud telecoms challenger,” Lauwers concludes.

The acquisition also gives Dstny access to the Wallonian cable and fibre optic network of VOO.  This means it can offer its customers even more choice in terms of connectivity and redundancy.  And that is something that is crucial for many companies in these Covid times, with the associated accelerated transition to the cloud.  It also enables Dstny to add the final missing link in its offering for local administrations. Wallonian municipalities and public undertakings can, from now on, grant certified and secure access to the National Register (Rijksregister) and the Crossroads Bank.

Gauthier Delfosse from Ulysse Group adds: “We are bringing 25 years’ experience in the internet and network infrastructure to Dstny and have recently added VOIP solutions to our portfolio.  As market leader in cloud communications solutions, Dstny has a portfolio that offers high value added for our customers in their transition to the cloud.  At the same time, we can add the required expertise in terms of website management and development to the Dstny portfolio.  We are convinced that together with Dstny we can offer our customers new tools, cloud solutions and access to 4G & 5G, so that they are even better prepared for the digital challenges of tomorrow.”
